Villager House Exteriors in Animal Crossing: Wild World (ACWW)

Have you ever wondered how villager house exteriors work in Animal Crossing: Wild World? Whether you have or not, it’s an interesting mechanic in this game. It works quite differently to how it works in more modern Animal Crossing games, where every villager has their own house exterior. In Wild World, the house exterior is tied to both the town *and* the villager, so your Bob’s house might be a little different than someone else’s Bob’s house.

The 25 Different House Styles

In Wild World, there are 25 house styles in total! What do I mean by house “style?” I mean the color of the roof/walls, and what it looks like the house is made of: stone, brick, wood, etc.

You can only have 4 house styles per town! It’s completely random which 4 house styles your town will have. You can have any combination of 4 in your town, out of the 25 house styles there are. There doesn’t seem to be a way to change your town’s house styles, so you can’t get any other styles than the 4 your town has.

What are the 25 house styles anyway? I recommend looking at this page by Mayu for an overview, while this page is under construction. Mayu managed to collect quite a few pictures of different houses, and all 25 styles are laid out on that page.

An Overview of How Houses Work

(WARNING: If you’re a more visual person, you may want to scroll down and see the pictures first, but this is my attempt to explain the mechanics via text. You can always look at the pictures first and then come back to this if necessary.)

There are 5 basic house structures in Wild World. What do I mean by structure? I mean the overall build and shape of the house. I’ve labeled these 5 house structures: barn, cabin, mansion, shack, and country cottage.

To make things a tad bit confusing, though, each basic structure comes in 4 different variations (chimneys, gables, etc.). These 4 variations are, in other words, 4 accent groups: A, B, C, and D. For example, all “shack” houses keep the same overall structure, but the 4 variations are accent pieces to the house, like chimneys and gables.

Furthermore, each accent group is tied to a one of your town’s house styles. All accent A houses will be the same style/color, all accent B houses will be the same style, and so on. For example, a barn house with accent A will be a certain house style in your town. All accent A houses in your will be that same style/color.

How do villagers tie into this? Every villager is assigned a house structure & accent combination. For example, Apollo has the barn house structure with accent group A, which has no chimney. Punchy, Nan, and Walker share this same structure & accent combo. So if you have Apollo in your town and take note of the house style he has in your town — say, stone — you know that the houses of Punchy, Nan, and Walker will look exactly the same as Apollo’s. You can even infer what other accent A houses will look like. Since you know Apollo’s house is stone and he is in the Accent A group, you know that Cyrano, Melba, Margie, and Mathilda will have stone houses as well, since they are all in the Accent A group. They each will have a different overall structure, though — Cyrano a cabin, Melba a mansion, Margie a shack, and Mathilda a country cottage.

The beauty of it all is that each of the 5 basic house structures will be represented in all of your town’s house styles! For example, the “shack” structure will come in the 4 different styles your town has. Each style/color of the shack will also look slightly different with the accent it has, like plain (no chimney), a gable, a metal chimney, and a stone chimney.

5 Basic House Structures

Remember that each structure comes in 4 small variations that will also match up with the 4 house styles unique to your town! And don’t take the titles of the structures super literally, I just figured since I was already using an A, B system for the accent groups (which are harder to describe), that I could try to figure out descriptive terms for the structures. But I don’t know architecture well! 😆

The 4 Basic House-Accent Groups

I just want to be clear that this isn’t necessarily new info, all the info is listed above! But this is a different way to organize it. Rather than organizing by the basic shapes, these are organized by the accent groups, which as you remember, each match up with a house style in your town. So if Accent A group is always pink in your town, all the villagers with pink houses will be listed below. Same with Accent B, and so on.

Accent Group A

Accent Group A seems to be a mixture of added gables, and also basic versions of the house’s roof, without a chimney.

Barn

Villagers (Barn, Accent A): Apollo, Punchy, Nan, Walker

Cabin

Villagers (Cabin, Accent A): Cyrano, Kid Cat, Hugh, Pecan, Cube, Maelle, Victoria

Mansion

Villagers (Mansion, Accent A): Melba, Jeremiah, Patty, Dora, Coco, Ribbot, Anchovy

Shack

Villagers (Shack, Accent A): Margie, Rosie, Octavian, Lucky, Drift, Pippy

Country Cottage

Villagers (Country Cottage, Accent A): Mathilda, Static, Rolf, Sally, Curt, Bluebear, Truffles

Accent Group B

Accent Group B seems to be a mixture of stone chimneys and added gables.

Barn

Villagers (Barn, Accent B): Anabelle, Tabby, Baabara, Cesar, Derwin, Amelia, Purrl, Bill, Peanut

Cabin

Villagers (Mansion, Accent B): Savannah, Deena, Antonio, Hopper, Goose, Nibbles

Mansion

Villagers (Mansion, Accent B): Lily, Alfonso, Angus, Kody, Limberg

Shack

Villagers (Shack, Accent B): Tiffany, Biskit, Boone, Olivia, War Jr, Marina

Country Cottage

Villagers (Country Cottage, Accent B): Pierce, Genji, Rowan, Mint, Maple, Roscoe, Chow, Dizzy, Rasher, Yuka

Accent Group C

Accent Group C seems to be a mixture of metal chimneys and added gables.

Barn

Villagers (Barn, Accent C): Moe, Blaire, Joey, Samson, Aurora, Rocco

Cabin

Villagers (Cabin, Accent C): Agent S, Pango, Pom-Pom, Teddy, Lucy, Friga, Elmer, Gwen, Benedict

Mansion

Villagers (Mansion, Accent C): Bob, Peewee, Goldie, Gaston, Rodeo, Frobert, Bella

Country Cottage

Villagers (Country Cottage, Accent C): Daisy, Alli, Bunnie, Big Top, Jay, Chief, Alice, Poncho, Jitters

Accent Group D

Accent Group D seems to be a mixture of added windows (which are always white, unlike the windows’ usual variance depending on house style), added stone chimneys, and added gables.

Barn

Villagers (Barn, Accent D): Buck, Rod, Ruby, Roald, Filbert, Pate, Kabuki

Cabin

Villagers (Cabin, Accent D): Kitt, Mallary, Curly, Freckles, Caroline, Tipper, Elvis, Stitches, Pinky

Disclaimer

All of these photos were taken by me, and all of this information was compiled by me as well. A guide on the mechanics of how Animal Crossing: Wild World house exteriors work has never existed anywhere else on the internet, as far as I can tell. I made these discoveries myself. That said, please ask if you are going to use anything here for content of your own, and please give permission if you do, at the very least.
